Ottawa Ornamental Gardens

/floral photo dump for your viewing pleasure

Is anyone else obsessed with the Ornamental Gardens at the Central Experimental Farm? I used to live within walking distance of the Farm and the Gardens. It’s one of my favourite places to stroll through, photograph, and take visiting friends and family to visit. It’s a beautiful (sometimes overlooked) gem of the city of Ottawa.

My favourite Spring/early Summer evening walk in Ottawa is travelling down the Central Experimental Farm’s Driveway, taking a side stroll through the Ornamental Gardens, visiting part of the Arboretum, then walking along a small section of the Rideau Canal and Dow’s Lake. At the end of the walk – onto Preston Street for gelato or a drink! It is the best route with the most beautiful blooms, views, and fragrances! There have been many evenings where I felt like Alice in Wonderland at the Ornamental Gardens. Watching rabbits jolt through hedges, traveling through secret gardens, and being surrounded by so many flowers is pure magic. I highly recommend visiting the Ornamental Gardens at dusk during Apple Blossom, Lilac, and Peony/Iris seasons – it’s spectacular!

I would love to know: do you have any favourite gardens in the National Capital Region? The Mackenzie King Estate in Gatineau Park is on our list of places to visit this summer. I have seen photos of some of their gardens and landscaping (which looks stunning) and cannot wait to go!
